The Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion has fought her final fight for the promotion and is set to make her UFC debut in the near future, TMZ reported Thursday night. The Web site also reported that the recently announced Jan. 12 Strikeforce card in Oklahoma City will be the promotion’s last.MMAFighting.com confirmed with sources close to the promotion that both news items are in fact true and more information is expected to be released early next week. It is unknown at this time when Rousey (6-0) and the rest of the Strikeforce women will make their debuts in the UFC, but it will most certainly happen at some point next year. Women have never fought inside the Octagon during the UFC’s 19-year history.

So certainly the No. 14 Cardinal would like nothing better than to derail the top-ranked Ducks in their bid for another shot at the national title. Right? “I wouldn’t call it revenge. Revenge is a strong word,” said defensive tackle Terrence Stephens. “I think in the game of football, you can’t really be revengeful, because those emotions will take you over. You’ve got be focused, and you’ve got to focus on the task at hand.” Last season, Stanford was ranked No. 3 and looking toward its own national championship bid with quarterback Andrew Luck when then-No. 6 Oregon visited Palo Alto and emerged with a 52-31 victory. Running back LaMichael James, who would join Luck’s NFL draft class in the spring, ran for 146 yards and three touchdowns.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. –  As Tennessee begins a new era in women’s basketball, perhaps it’s only fitting that a freshman is leading the way. The emergence of freshman forward Bashaara Graves has helped the 16th-ranked Lady Vols win five consecutive games in Holly Warlick’s debut season as coach. Graves headed into the weekend as the Southeastern Conference’s third-leading scorer (15. 8) and sixth-leading rebounder (7.8). No other freshman ranked among the conference’s top 18 scorers or top 14 rebounders. Graves’ rapid rise hasn’t surprised anyone at Tennessee. Her coaches and teammates knew all along she’d be a major factor. Even Graves herself believed she could contribute right away. She remembered what Warlick told each of the freshmen before the season. “She basically told us that we don’t have time to be freshmen, which is understandable because we’re a younger team,” Graves said. “Being freshmen, we don’t have that option.

Getty Images For all the annual pomp and circumstance surrounding the SEC championship game, more times than not the preeminent college football conference’s showcase has turned into an unabashed rout. In the 20 such games played prior to this season, 16 of them were decided by 10 points or more.  More than half (11) saw the winning team romp by more than two touchdowns, with three of those devolving into 30-plus-point bloodbaths.  Just two had been decided by six points or less, and those were back in the pre-BCS days of 1994 and 1997. The former game — Florida’s one-point win over unbeaten Alabama — and the latter — one that saw a Peyton Manning-led-Tennessee squad overcome a 20-10 deficit on Auburn en route to its one-point win — have widely been considered the greatest in the history of the conference, as has the 2008 matchup of No.

MANHATTAN, Kan. –  Collin Klein threw a touchdown pass and ran for two scores and No. 7 Kansas State beat No. 23 Texas 42-24 on Saturday night for its third conference title in 117 years and a trip to the Fiesta Bowl. The Wildcats had never played for a conference championship in their last game at home, and had never had a player end the regular season in such close contention for the Heisman Trophy as Klein. Neither of his main competitors, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel nor Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o, played this weekend. So Klein, a multitalented senior, had the stage all to himself, one last chance to burnish his credentials for what would be Kansas State’s first Heisman.
